About the picture ‘Die URBANISTEN’ from the series URBANISTEN:

First panel:
A group of people who feel that they belong together colonise any territory on this planet and begin to build a structure. Gradually, the individual settlements unite. In order to recognise the continuously growing society, they give themselves a flag as a sign of their unity. In our case, the colours are black, red and gold.

The society develops and becomes larger and more important than the societies that have formed in the neighbouring territories. A crisis arises. Now agitators take over the action suggest to their society that they, i.e. the Black, Red and Gold, are not to blame for the situation, but the others, who must now be invaded and territorially incorporated.

Second panel:
The ambush succeeds. The Black, Red and Gold rebuild society according to their ideas and plunder the conquered territory. Once they get rolling, the agitators propagate that the next territory is the ‘Promised Land’ where milk and honey will flow and that they only need THE ONE to rule ALL and EVERYTHING.

Third panel:
After the case of Two, One continues its ‘raid’ and levels all cultural differences beyond recognition... death awaits!
A black light lamp is supplied with this work. The second glance, under black light, the viewer recognises that the promises of the agitators are just demagoguery. Gold becomes black and dark blue, what was just dazzling now leads to nothing.
